Quarantine was definitely worth a scream!

Due to snowy weather, Wub and I decided that yesterday was a great day to rent movies and hang out indoors. So we went to Blockbuster and to my surprise, the movie Quarantine was out in the New Release section - woohooo! As many of you know, I am a total scary movie genre freak, so this absolutely made me a happy camper yesterday. I mean, snowy conditions, my best friend, a $5 foot long from Subway, and a scary movie - BEST DAY EVER! So let's dive into my thoughts about this flick.

From the start, Wub and I were very unsure of how this movie was going to pan out, because the first 20 minutes are definitely a snoozer. You start off with a night time reporter and her cameraman filming a story about the lives of firemen. As you can imagine - it was completely boring footage. However this piece does set the stage for the movie, as the viewer comes to realize that this whole film is shot from the view of the cameraman. So WARNING - if you don't like movies that are shot like this (like Blair Witch), then I highly advise you stay away from this one. I mean, luckily the cameraman is pretty steady handed, so you won't feel like you are sea sick like I did when I went to see Cloverfield.

So the story surrounds an apartment building in Los Angeles, CA that has suddenly been quarantined by the government. The tenants along with 2 police officers, 2 firemen, and the small camera crew are trapped in the building. The camera woman (played by Jennifer Carpenter of Dexter) decides that the public should know what is going on in the building, so she advises her cameraman to continue shooting throughout the whole ordeal. You soon find out that there is a reason that this building is being quarantined - there is something spreading throughout the blood of anyone infected that turns them into rabid, crazy, flesh-eating people. My personal thoughts on this movie? Well for something that started off so slow - it definitely picked up speed quickly and consistently. When the movie goes into full swing, it really picks up with tons of drama between the tenants, gruesome and bloody scenes, plenty of questions as to what this is and what the government is hiding, and of course the desperation of the apartment's current inhabitants to break free of the building. In all, I would recommend this movie for those of you who are sick in the head like me and enjoy bloody horror movies. This one was definitely pretty good! Happy movie watching kiddos!
